Satyendranath Bose
What India lost in Satyendranath Bose is a glaring talent in the field of science . It is a loss ever irrecovable . He was born of the parents , Surendranath Bose and Amodini Devi , on January 1 , 1894 in Kolkata . His early education which started at Normal School in Kolkata showed brilliance even in all examinations at the elementary levels . He was placed 5th from Hindu School in his Entrance Examination . He was the top in F.A. and B.Sc. examination from the Presidency College . He had Honours in physics from the University of Calcutta . Two years later he secured the first position in his M.Sc. examination . In 1916 he joined the Science College as a teacher in physics .
A few years later he went as a Reader of physics to Dhaka University where he became a professor of the subject . Among his works , some translated papers on the Theory of Relativity are famous . He carried researches theoritically on the nature of light and established the Bose - Einstein Theory . Honours poured on him from various corners . He was awarded D.Sc. by Calcutta University . India honoured him with Padmabibhusan in 1959 and Visva - bharati with Deshikottam . He was appointed National Professor in 1959. Bangiya Bijnan Parishad was established by him . It was intended for cultivation of science in Bengali language . He encouraged Bengali medium for science . The Bijnan is the land mark in the field of science in the Parishad is considered as his best work and 1974. His death is a loss that can never be recovered .
