What are the main features of industrial clusters in developing countries?
Briefly discuss the patters of industrial clusters that emerged in developing countries.
Ans. The main features of industrial clusters in developing countries are as follows: (1) The largest of Asia's city-regions sometimes exhibit agglomeration diseconomies because of congestion, pollution, crime and so on. Although, this problem is not absolute, in the sense that appropriate policy and planning interventions can invariably clear away some of the barriers to further growth especially in Asia where many traditional craft industries outside the main metropolitan areas are beginning to show signs of modem entrepreneurial energy and orientation to wider market.
(2) Subcontracting is an important organisational strategy for lowering wages, total costs and repel industrial disputes.
