Tsunami is a sudden swelling of sea-water. It appears when a severe earthquake hits the sea-bed. Sea water rises and rushes towards the coastal areas of the countries. Tsunami occurs very often in Japan. But on the morning of 26th December 2004, a great tsunami tidal waves 40 feet high swept eight ocean-rim countries of South East Asia. The massive earthquake of 8.9 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Indonesia, Srilanka, Andaman, Chennai, etc.

Though some were saved but many of them had lost their relatives and properties. They became homeless and helpless. The world people came forward to save the survivors .
