ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR :  ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR is known as Vidyasagar in Bengal. He was born in 1820 at Birsingha in the district of Midnapore. He came of a very poor family. He studied at the Sanskrit College in Kolkata. He became a teacher of the same college. 


 Lastly ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR was promoted to principal of the college. Sometime he worked as an inspector of schools. He was known as Vidyasagar for his vast learning in Sanskrit. ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR led a simple life.


 He had a kind heart. ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR set up girls' schools, fought against child marriage and started widow marriage. He is called the father of Bengali prose. 


His 'Barna Parichaya' is very popular learners of Bengal. This great son of Bengal died in 1891. But ISWAR CHANDRA VIDYASAGAR will among the always remain in our minds for his great heart, ideals and works.
