VIOLENT TRAIN ACCIDENT INJURING 300
Dum Dum , Oct. 5 A violent train accident took place at 7 o'clock this evening at some place in between Ultadanga and Dum Dum stations . According to an eyewitness the Up - Darjeeling Mail rammed speedily into the rear carriage of Up - Naihati Local which halted there a few minutes ago for the signal to receive . The number of passengers killed on the very spot rose to nearly two hundred . About three hundred people including 150 women and 35 children were seriously injured .
They were immediately carried to hospital . As many as hundred passengers had minor injuries and were let off after First Aid . It was known later that the wrong signal was the cause of this worst collision . Rescue operation started promptly . Army was called in to assist the civil people . A team of medical experts with 100 ambulance - cars reached the spot soon . Train service was suspended immediately .
